COVINGTON, Ky. – Covington is relaxing its garbage restrictions again next week to let residents throw away bulk trash items without using the special green stickers that are normally required. 

The relaxed rules of Trash Amnesty Week, July 23-27, apply to single-family homes and multi-family buildings with four or fewer units. 

Next week, residents can place up to three large items and ten 30-gallon bags of trash at the curb to be collected during regularly scheduled trash days, along with the trash contained inside the City-issued carts. 

Residents should still prepare large items for collection. For example: 

·         Mattresses, box springs and upholstered furniture should be wrapped and sealed in plastic.

·         Freon should be properly removed from appliances.

·         Leaves and grass clippings should be contained in either paper or plastic bags.

·         Branches, loose shrubbery or lumber should be bundled and tied in lengths no larger than 4 feet long and 2 feet wide, and they shouldn’t weigh more than 50 pounds.  

Bagged yard waste counts toward the 10-bag limit. 

Outside of Trash Amnesty Week, residents must use one of their 12 City-issued green stickers to dispose of bulk items and trash that doesn’t fit inside their cart. Each sticker allows residents to dispose of one large item or an additional six bags of trash. See instructions printed on the stickers for details. 

Covington adopted the green sticker program to help keep neighborhoods, streets, and sidewalks clean.

Two more Trash Amnesty Weeks will be held this year, during the weeks of Oct. 22-26 and Dec. 24-29.
