Urban Forestry seeks volunteers to help Covington’s young street trees thrive during Tree Week

COVINGTON, Ky. – The Covington Urban Forestry Board and the City of Covington’s Urban Forestry Division are inviting residents to roll up their sleeves and help care for some of Covington’s young street trees in celebration of Tree Week in Kentucky.

The volunteer event will take place from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, with participants meeting at the Latonia Christian Church parking lot, 3900 Decoursey Ave.

During the event, volunteers will help Urban Forestry staff care for young trees in the area by spreading mulch, staking trees, and removing protective tubes from trees that have outgrown them.

The hands-on work is part of ongoing efforts to give young street trees the care they need as they become established and continue to grow.

Those interested in participating should come prepared to get a little dirty and wear clothing and shoes appropriate for outdoor work.

The event is free and open to the public. No registration is required. For more information, visit the event page on Facebook.

The event is organized by the Covington Urban Forestry Board and the City of Covington’s Urban Forestry Division as part of Tree Week in Kentucky.
