Covington advances as finalist in The Local Palate’s Best Culinary Town in the South competition; public encouraged to vote

COVINGTON, Ky. – Covington’s nationally recognized food and beverage scene is one step closer to earning top honors, as The Local Palate magazine has named the city one of four finalists in its 2026 Best Culinary Town in the South competition.

After thousands of votes were cast during the publication’s initial Readers’ Poll, Covington advanced from a field of 15 culinary destinations across the South to the final round. While The Local Palate typically narrows the competition to three towns, this year’s voting resulted in a tie for third place, creating a four-town finalist field.

The magazine’s annual competition celebrates the best and brightest culinary towns across the South. Focusing on communities where visitors can discover exceptional restaurants, farmers’ markets, home goods stores, wine shops, classic Southern dishes, outstanding bars, and vibrant food cultures.

Now, Covington is asking food lovers from across the region to help bring the title home.

The final round of voting is underway, and supporters have until 11:59 a.m. on Friday, July 17, to vote for Covington as the Best Culinary Town in the South

“This recognition is a testament to the incredible chefs, restaurant owners, brewers, bakers, and entrepreneurs who have helped make Covington one of the region’s premier dining destinations,” Mayor Ron Washington said. “Our culinary community continues to attract visitors from across the country, and we’re honored to be among the finalists. We encourage everyone who loves Covington’s food scene to cast their vote.”

Covington’s culinary renaissance has transformed the city into a destination for food enthusiasts, offering everything from nationally recognized restaurants and craft breweries to neighborhood cafés and food-focused events. The city’s unique blend of historic charm, walkable neighborhoods, and locally owned establishments has helped establish Covington as a culinary leader.

The winning town will be featured on the cover of The Local Palate’s special edition, South’s Best Culinary Towns, which will hit newsstands on December 15, 2026.
