COVINGTON, Ky. — The City of Covington has revoked the alcoholic beverage control license for Hat Tricks Sports Bar following a shooting that occurred at the establishment on Saturday, May 16, 2026. As a result of the revocation, Hat Tricks Sports Bar is no longer permitted to operate as a licensed alcoholic beverage establishment within the City.
Pursuant to state and local alcoholic beverage control regulations governing licenses, Hat Tricks Sports Bar was afforded an administrative hearing regarding violations associated with this incident. Following that hearing, the City determined that Hat Tricks Sports Bar violated applicable city and/or state alcoholic beverage laws, violated its local liquor license conditions, and had become a premises associated with nuisance activity. Moving forward, the establishment’s owners have the ability to appeal the decision to the appropriate state board.
Additionally, in response to the underlying incident, the Covington Police Department will increase bike and foot patrols in the 900 block of Madison Avenue. Shift personnel will also park marked cruisers near the intersection of 9th Street and Madison Avenue to enhance police visibility and deter criminal activity. Furthermore, the Police Department will also conduct an environmental assessment of the location and the surrounding area to evaluate several factors potentially related to the incident and the previous operation of the establishment.
“This incident is unacceptable,” City Manager Sharmili Reddy said. “Covington has zero tolerance for this kind of gun violence. The safety of our residents will always remain our top priority. We will continue working together as a community to keep Covington safe while holding businesses accountable for maintaining a safe environment for patrons and neighbors alike.”
