COVINGTON, KY – The City of Covington’s Parks & Recreation Department is inviting young anglers and their families to cast a line at the upcoming Youth Fishing Derby on Saturday, May 30, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Prisoners Lake in Devou Park.
This free community event is open to children of all skill levels, whether they are experienced anglers or fishing for the very first time. Bait will be provided, and fishing poles will be available to borrow with a parent or guardian’s ID.
Participants will have the chance to compete for fun prizes in several categories, including:
- Smallest Fish
- Longest Fish
- Heaviest Fish
- Most Fish Caught
The derby will follow a catch-and-release format to help preserve the lake’s fish population and encourage environmental stewardship among participants.
“This event is a great opportunity for kids and families to learn new skills and spend time outdoors together in one of Covington’s most beautiful parks,” Parks & Recreation Manager Greg Stacy said.
No registration is required. Families are encouraged to arrive early to check in and get set up before fishing begins.
