Urban Forestry Division Invites Public to Explore Wallace Woods on Guided Tree Walk

COVINGTON, Ky. – The City of Covington’s Urban Forestry Division invites residents and visitors to take part in an educational and engaging Tree Walk through the Wallace Woods neighborhood.

The free event will take place from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 23, and will begin at 2300 Madison Avenue with parking available via Sterrett Avenue. The guided walk will be led by Kenton County Cooperative Extension Agent Brandon George and City of Covington Urban Forester Patrick Moore.

Participants will visit approximately 30 trees along the route, including those located in the public right-of-way and along the edges of private property. Along the way, attendees will learn how to identify different tree species, explore the unique characteristics of trees found in Wallace Woods, and better understand what makes a “good” or “bad” street tree.

The walk will also cover important topics such as invasive plants and species — including the spotted lanternfly — as well as broader forestry and horticulture insights relevant to homeowners and nature enthusiasts alike.

The event is designed to be both educational and accessible, offering a chance to enjoy the outdoors while getting light exercise. Attendees are encouraged to wear comfortable walking shoes.

The Tree Walk is free and open to the public. Pre-registration is encouraged and can be completed here. Walk-ups are also welcome on the day of the event.

This program is organized in partnership by the Covington Urban Forestry Board, the City’s Urban Forestry Division, and the University of Kentucky Kenton County Extension Office.
