COVINGTON, KY — The City of Covington is preparing to welcome runners for the 28th annual Flying Pig Marathon on Sunday, May 3, with a new race route that brings participants deeper into Covington neighborhoods.
Due to the demolition of the Fourth Street Bridge, this year’s marathon course has been adjusted. Runners will cross into Covington from Newport via the Girl Scout Bridge, continue north along Greenup Street, and then turn onto Fourth Street, where the route resumes as in previous years.
As a result of this updated route, portions of Greenup Street will experience temporary closures and access restrictions during the event.
To assist residents living along Greenup Street who may need or wish to move their vehicles, the City is offering courtesy parking accommodations at no cost. Affected residents may pick up a parking validation ticket for use at the Midtown Garage.
Validation tickets are available in advance at ABM Parking Services, located at 501 Scott Street. For additional information, residents may contact ABM Parking by phone at 859-431-7049.
A parking validation ticket is used to cover parking fees at designated garages. When exiting, drivers insert their original parking ticket at the pay station, followed by the validation ticket, which applies the credit and covers the parking cost.
Residents are encouraged to plan ahead and pick up a validation ticket prior to race day if they anticipate needing alternate parking.
The City of Covington appreciates residents’ patience and cooperation as the community hosts this major regional event. Covington is proud to support the Flying Pig Marathon while working to minimize impacts to neighborhood access.
