Free Tree Seedling Giveaway at Linden Day Covington Arbor Day Celebration

COVINGTON, Ky. — The City of Covington invites residents to celebrate trees, community, and sustainability at the annual Linden Day Covington Arbor Day Celebration on Saturday, April 25, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Historic Linden Grove Cemetery and Arboretum.

The free event is hosted in partnership with the Historic Linden Grove Cemetery and Arboretum, the Covington Urban Forestry Board and Forestry Division, Bartlett Tree Experts, and Residents of Westside. The celebration highlights the importance of urban forestry while encouraging residents to plant and care for trees throughout the community.

As part of the Arbor Day festivities, partners will distribute more than 400 free tree seedlings to Covington residents (proof of residency required). Each resident may receive up to three seedlings, with an opportunity to receive a fourth free seedling by showing proof of participation in the same-day Covington Green-Up event hosted by Keep Covington Beautiful. A photo from the Green-Up event will be required to claim the additional seedling.

Available seedling species include:

  • Buttonbush

  • Black Gum

  • Black Oak

  • Saucer Magnolia

  • Washington Hawthorn

Participants will receive complete planting instructions, along with guidance on proper placement based on each tree’s mature size.

In addition to the giveaway, attendees can enjoy a ceremonial tree planting, live acoustic music, and opportunities to learn more about the benefits of trees and sustainable landscaping practices.

More Opportunities for Free Trees

Covington residents will have even more chances to pick up free trees that day. The UK Kenton County Cooperative Extension will host its Earth Day Tree Seedling Giveaway on April 25 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Covington Library parking lot (502 Scott St.) and at its Marshall Road office.

More information about that event is available here.

With multiple giveaways happening throughout the day, April 25 offers a unique opportunity for residents to contribute to Covington’s urban tree canopy.
