City of Covington Announces Safety Improvements at Greenup & Pleasant Intersection

COVINGTON, KY — The City of Covington is converting the intersection of Greenup Street and Pleasant Street into a four-way stop as part of ongoing efforts to improve roadway safety.

Crews have installed ADA-compliant handicap ramps along the sidewalks. Clearly marked stop bars and new crosswalks are scheduled to be striped on Tuesday, April 7, weather permitting, followed by the installation of stop signs in all directions. The new four-way stop is expected to be fully implemented on Wednesday, April 8.

The change follows the conversion of Greenup Street to a two-way street between 12th Street and 20th Street in October 2025. Since that transition, the City has continued to evaluate nearby intersections to ensure they operate safely and efficiently under the new traffic pattern.

The Greenup and Pleasant intersection presents unique safety challenges due to the steep grade of the roadway, which can limit visibility for drivers attempting to look in both directions before entering or crossing the intersection. The addition of a four-way stop is intended to create a safer environment for all.

Motorists are encouraged to use caution in the area and watch for crews as work progresses.
