Celebrate America Recycles Day: How Covington Residents Can Recycle Responsibly

COVINGTON, Ky. – November 15 is America Recycles Day, and Covington’s Solid Waste and Recycling Division is celebrating all month long by encouraging residents to take small, simple actions that make a big impact.

Recycling the right way helps reduce waste, conserve natural resources, and save energy — all while keeping our community clean and sustainable. With support from our dedicated partners, the City is reminding residents to make the most of the many recycling options available in Covington.

Have questions? Call the City of Covington’s Solid Waste and Recycling Division at 859-292-4417 for help.

Rumpke Curbside Recycling

Not everything belongs in your curbside recycling bin, and knowing what doesn’t helps prevent contamination. Visit the City’s Recycling Guidelines to see what can and can’t be recycled through Rumpke’s curbside program.

Hefty Renew Program

Single-use plastics that can’t go in your curbside bin can still be recycled through the Hefty Renew program. Learn how to collect and recycle these materials responsibly by visiting Hefty Renew’s website for program details

Lithium-Ion Battery Drop-Off

Lithium-ion batteries should never be placed in curbside recycling or trash bins due to fire hazards. Covington residents can safely drop them off locally, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at:

  • Company 1 Fire Station – 100 East Robbins St. Parking is available in the fire station lot off East Robbins. Use the side door on East Robbins and press the button for entry.

  • Company 5 Fire Station – 1255 Hands Pike Parking is available between the fire station and the park. Use the front door on the Hands Pike side for access.

Electronics Recycling

Don’t toss electronics in the trash. They contain valuable materials that can be reused.

  • Annual One-Day Event (June): The City of Covington and Keep Covington Beautiful host an annual electronics recycling event at Holmes High School. Check the City’s and KCB’s websites for details.

  • TechCastle: Drop off electronics Monday–Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. (TVs accepted for free for Covington residents).

  • REBOOT: Drop off bins available 24/7. Covington location: 321 MLK Blvd. (Center for Great Neighborhoods).

  • Single-stream recycling

Cincinnati Recycling & Reuse Hub

Looking for a place to take hard-to-recycle items like batteries, office supplies, or small appliances? The Cincinnati Recycling & Reuse Hub accepts many materials that can’t go in curbside bins. Visit their website to see what’s accepted before dropping off

The Beauty Dropoff™

Beauty product containers and packaging can also be recycled! Through Conscious Beauty at Ulta Beauty®, residents can drop off empty beauty and personal care products at participating stores. Visit Ulta’s website to learn more about how it works

Food Scrap Composting

The Environmental Protection Agency estimates that more food reaches landfills and incinerators than any other single material in our everyday trash. In Covington, residents can help divert food waste from the landfill through the City’s partnerships with Queen City Commons and Redden Community Gardens

Do Your Part

America Recycles Day is a reminder that every action counts. By taking a few moments to recycle properly and knowing where to take harder-to-recycle items, Covington residents can help create a cleaner, greener community.
