Covington’s Community Liaison Connects Residents with Local Government

COVINGTON, Ky. — A familiar face at City Hall is stepping into a new role as the City’s first Community Liaison, a position designed to strengthen the connection between residents and local government.

The Community Liaison serves as an accessible resource for Covington residents to voice concerns, seek information, and navigate city services. By fostering open dialogue and promoting transparency, the position helps ensure equitable access and builds trust between the community and City Hall.

“What drew me to the Community Liaison position is the opportunity to be directly engaged in the community—building connections, fostering relationships, and helping strengthen Northern Kentucky,” Brown said. “I’ve often been told that I’m a ‘fixer.’ To me, that means I have a natural ability to identify challenges, understand their root causes, and develop practical, solution-oriented strategies to address them.”

No stranger to City Hall or to Covington, Brown brings valuable insight and relationships into her new role. Recently, she has been engaged in learning even more about Covington’s neighborhoods and working closely with the Neighborhood Services Department to align the mayor’s initiatives with community needs and priorities.

She helped bring new energy to the Old Timers Reunion, a beloved local tradition, and is currently supporting a neighborhood association as it works to improve traffic and pedestrian safety.

“Every relationship begins with a conversation — and that’s exactly how I approach every situation,” Brown explained. “When an issue or concern arises, I start by creating space for dialogue that is both informative and mutually beneficial. I intentionally position myself in the middle, listening carefully to all perspectives to ensure that every voice is heard. Our citizens deeply appreciate being listened to, and it’s my sincere hope that they feel genuinely supported throughout the process.”

Brown says the very creation of her position signals a cultural shift in local government. One that puts listening, collaboration, and community empowerment at the forefront.

“The community is beginning to notice a new way of doing government here in the City of Covington,” she said. “While people may not fully know what to expect yet, there’s a growing sense of hope about the possibilities—and confidence that their voices truly matter in shaping what’s next. A perfect example of this shift is the creation of my position. The very existence of a Community Liaison sends a clear message: the City cares, and we want to hear from you.”

Her work is already making an impact as she helps coordinate community-building events such as Rock the Block: Covington this November and celebrates the success of recent citywide Halloween events.

“It’s inspiring to see all the growth, energy, and plans taking shape in our community,” Brown said. “If you want the cooperation of humans around you, you must make them feel they are important—and you do that by being genuine and humble,” she added, quoting Nelson Mandela.

In a nutshell, Brown describes her role simply:

“Engaging the community with a genuine listening ear. Handling their concerns with care while relaying and amplifying their ideas and wishes to city leadership. It is humbling to be influential in bridging the gap between the community and the government.”
