City of Covington Welcomes Three New Police Officers

COVINGTON, Ky. – The City of Covington officially welcomed three new officers to its Police Department this week during a swearing-in ceremony at City Hall.

Mayor Ron Washington administered the oath of office to Officers Damon Hasner, Ian Hughes, and Colton Williams, with the officers’ family and leadership from the Covington Police Department in attendance.

Officer Damon Hasner is no stranger to the Covington Police Department, having served in the Police Cadet Program before being hired as a full-time officer. He is currently taking courses at Gateway Community and Technical College and plans to pursue a master's degree in public administration at Northern Kentucky University.

Officer Ian Hughes gained firsthand experience with the Covington Police as an intern before applying to join the force. He also interned with the University of Kentucky Police Department. A graduate of the University of Kentucky, Hughes holds a double major in psychology and anthropology, along with a minor in criminology.

Officer Colton Williams comes to Covington with a background in education. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business from Trine University and previously taught at Greensburg Community Schools in Indiana and Butte Falls Charter School in Oregon.

All three officers will now begin the Basic Training Academy hosted by the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Training in Richmond. The program includes weeks of online, in-house, and extensive in-person instruction. Following their graduation, the officers will enter Covington’s 20-week Field Training Program, where they will receive hands-on experience alongside veteran officers.
