New Officer Sworn In to Covington Police Department

The City of Covington welcomed its newest police officer, as Tyler Setter was sworn in during a ceremony at City Hall on Monday, July 14, 2025.

Mayor Ron Washington administered the oath of office, with members of Setter’s family and leadership from the Covington Police Department in attendance.

A native of Independence, Kentucky, Setter is a 2024 graduate of Northern Kentucky University, where he earned a degree in Exercise Science and minored in mathematics.

After completing an in-house training at the Covington Police Department, Setter will report to the Department of Criminal Justice Training Academy in Richmond, Kentucky, where he will undergo six months of training.

After graduating from the academy, Setter will return to Covington and be assigned to the patrol bureau. There, he will begin the department’s Field Training program, which pairs new officers with experienced in-house field training officers. He’ll rotate through all four patrol shifts to gain experience policing Covington at different times of day and night, and in all corners of the City.
