Bourbon Day & Father’s Day

COVINGTON, Ky. – Friday the 13th … National Bourbon Day … and Father’s Day all occur this weekend.

As for the national bourbon holiday and Father’s Day, we’ve got some fun suggestions on how you can celebrate (they involve food and/or libations).

Plus, there are plenty of other cool things happening, like lots of live music, art workshops, a creative event at The Carnegie, karaoke, wine to sip, trivia, bingo, and more.

Practice makes poetry … and music

Gallery Practice Session (Part 1) with IFCM at The Carnegie on Saturday invites you to join as poets elese daniel and J/Jenn/Jennifer Howd, and musician Allen Otte, use the galleries to practice, rehearse, and create during gallery hours.

Otte is a cofounder of America’s first professional percussion ensemble, the Blackearth Percussion Group and the Percussion Group Cincinnati, with whom he toured for decades and throughout the world performing new and experimental music.

elese daniel moonlights is a poet – “pushing and pulling text, seeking verse in the lapping of time and movement.”

J/Jenn/Jennifer Howd is a queer, non-binary, multi-disciplinary artist whose work explores memory, transformation, and healing.

In collaboration with The International Foundation for Contemporary Music, Dr. Brianna Matzke and Sso-Rha Kang are co-curating the two-part interdisciplinary performance that explores both the practice and the performance of ritual.

Learn while you shop

WAVE on Wheels at the Covington Farmers Market on Saturday combines the opportunity to do all your marketing while the kiddos – and you – learn about water conservation. Plus, you’ll get to meet some pretty cool aquatic animal ambassadors and get the scoop on events and summer camps.

The WAVE Foundation inspires and fosters environmental stewards of aquatic life through education, conservation, and volunteerism.

Pour a pendant

Learn how to make art you can wear at the Wearable Art: Acrylic Pour Pendant Class at Purple Paisley, Local Artisan Shop on Saturday.

You’ll craft a unique pendant by combining a glass cabochon with a piece of acrylic pour art to create a personalized piece of jewelry.

A sip-worthy national holiday

Some might say it’s the finest national holiday in America.
