Rainbow flags & ‘Heels on Wheels’

COVINGTON, Ky. – Can you feel the energy yet? That big, palpable, celebratory vibe that is the unmistakable sizzling excitement of NKY Pride 2024?

This is NKY Pride’s 15th year of celebrating in the city where “Y’all really means all.” We’re talking a big old “crystal” anniversary right here, which should warrant a ginormous sparkling crystal disco ball suspended over entirety of The Cov (Alas, one can dream).

There will be parades, parties, bikers, drag shows (Ah, the fabulous drag shows!), vendors, Pride swag, music, dancing, dogs in cool rainbow scarves, and basically anything and everything that exudes the universal truth that “Love wins.”

And you’ll find other cool stuff to do this weekend, like a BBQ for a good cause, lots of live music, bingo, fishing, and so much more.

Dancing on the rooftop

All the sparkle and dazzle happens beneath the stars tonight at the Pride Rooftop Drag Show at Braxton Brewing Co.

Grab your friends and get to this fun-filled night of entertainment, which includes the rollout of Braxton’s new Pride Watermelon Birdie ($1 per pint will be donated to NKY Pride).

Molly Mormen will emcee the drag show and there will be cool NKY Pride 2024 shirts you’ll want to purchase.

Bar-B-Q & ice buckets

Saturday’s Q4A Cure Swingin’ for Lou Street Bar-B-Q at Smoke Justis is actually a lot more than a barbecue picnic that features live music and delicious food and drinks. It’s an event that’s dedicated to raising funds for ALS research and patient care. So, in addition to having all the staples of a good old fashioned barbecue, there will be plenty of ice buckets for the brave souls who don’t mind getting soaked for a good cause.

By the way, did you know that this is the 10th anniversary of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge? You might remember that it was the global phenomenon that happened rather organically back in 2014 when three young men living with ALS inspired more than 17 million people around the world to dump ice on their heads and donate to an ALS organization.

The cost of your reservation for this event will directly support local ALS patients.

It’s a crystal anniversary

It’s NKY Pride’s crystal anniversary but they’re doing the gift giving by way of delivering a spectacular parade and a knock-your-socks-off festival at Goebel Park on Sunday. There’s a whole lot happening, so read on.

The NKY Pride 2024 – Celebrating 15 Years! kicks off with a parade at noon, so check the route, grab a bag for your candy-catching, and dart out the door to get a strategic spot for optimum viewing.

In the event that you’re more of a participator than a watcher, then the Drag Bike Brigade invites you to join Queen City Bike, Lil’s Bagels, and Ride the Cov and take your wheels to the streets in “whatever drag means to you.” The parade starts lining up at 10 a.m. at W. 6th Street between Madison Avenue and Washington Street, so you know where to be and when.

Along the way there will be a Pop-Up NKY Pride Parade Party happening at 11 a.m., at the NKY Pride Center at 230 W. Pike St., where all the parade judges will be seated, including Mirelle Jane Divine. Expect free refreshments, hospitality, and Pride swag.

You can follow the parade right to MainStrasse Village, where the NKY PrideFest will be playing out with live entertainment on the meetNKY Stage and more than 100 vendors that include local artisans, organizations, and more.

Still partying

The Official NKY Pride After Party happens in the courtyard at Hotel Covington on Sunday evening.

Music starts at 5 p.m., and the spectacular show beginning at 6:30 p.m. will be emceed by Brooklyn Steele-Tate and Sarah Jessica Darker and will feature the talents of Mirelle Jane Divine, Ginger LeSnapps, Alexander Cameron, Jessica Marie Jones, P.H. Dee, and Molly Mormen.

Bring your dollars and get there early to secure a premium spot for this not-to-be-missed show.
