Scorched marshmallows, wine & BCM for free

COVINGTON, Ky. – Who doesn’t love feeling special every now and then?

This is an especially good weekend to live in The Cov because Behringer-Crawford Museum’s “Cov Day” happens Saturday, and that means free fun for families here.

Elsewhere in The Cov, there’s plenty of good local market shopping to be done (even for your dog).

And don’t dawdle on your reading. Two good events are happening early tonight … so scroll fast and take action.

Ooey, gooey goodness

If you agree that nothing says winter like a scorched marshmallow, then make your way to S’mores and More at Behringer-Crawford Museum tonight, where like-minded folks will gather for the magic that is melted chocolate and marshmallows smooshed between graham crackers.

This free event for the whole family runs from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., so be quick about it. While you’re there, be sure to take in the beauty of the Winter Wonderland, located in the outdoor NaturePlay@BCM.

Sit and sip

If you’re longing for a nice pour of wine tonight, then make your way to the Wine Tasting at Crafts & Vines. They’ve switched up their wine tasting schedule for December due to how the holidays land on the calendar this year.

There are two seatings available, so be sure to reserve yours.

A howlin’ good time

Be sure that your pup is camera-ready, because Saturday presents a holiday photo opportunity (and plenty of treats to howl about) at The Roost Latonia’s Howliday Market. Also there will be vendors with plenty of crafted treats and doggie products for you to purchase for your best friend’s stocking.

The Roost knows that any good shopping venture starts with the right brew to sip on (or lap up, as the case may be), so they’ll have pup cups for your dog’s sipping pleasure and tasty concoctions for you too.

Jingle to a cure

Don festive and warm holiday attire (yeah, we know the song says “gay apparel” but baby it’s cold outside) and take your mark at the Northern Kentucky Convention Center for The Arthritis Foundation’s annual Jingle Bell Run.

The “run” on Saturday is the foundation’s signature holiday event and will kick off with an opening ceremony hosted by Pete Scalia of WCPO’s Cincy Lifestyle.

Pulled a hamstring? Can’t find your running shoes? You can donate online or offline through the above event link.

Cov day at the museum

City Days: Covington at Behringer-Crawford Museum on Saturday is an annual free event that we’ve all come to look forward to (especially the kiddos).

The event is reserved exclusively for Covington residents to enjoy the museum’s “Holly Jolly Days” activities, which includes festive displays like Lilliput Lane collectibles, a Charles Dickens-themed  village, and an outdoor light show that winds your way through the museum’s NaturePlay@BCM playscape.

You’ll also get to see the Behringer-Crawford’s Holiday Toy Trains, which are something to behold. The exhibit features 8 O-gauge Lionel model trains that circle around more than 250 feet of track. Press a button on the exhibit and you’ll activate lights and motions, becoming part of this miniature world of merriment and magic.

To get in free, bring proof of Covington residency (like a driver’s license or a piece of mail with your address on it), and then look forward to an afternoon of holiday fun for the whole family.

Shop where the artists toil

Resident artists of the Hellmann Creative Center will be featured vendors at Saturday’s Holiday Market and Artist Open House.

It’s a great place to purchase holiday gifts from local craft vendors, plus get a peek inside the artist studios (where perhaps you’ll be inspired to give time to your own creative talents).
