Board games and ‘pretty decent music’

COVINGTON, Ky. – If you’re looking for something to do this weekend, we’ve got a few things for your consideration.

Show your skill (and maybe a cunning, fierce competitiveness) at playing board games. … Cheer on the Bengals when they take on the Titans in Nashville (homefield losses hurt more, so there might be some Titan tears shed). … Listen to some smokin’ hot live music (and some “pretty decent music”). … And find plenty of good in-season winter produce at the Covington Farmers Market so you can make yourself a big ‘ol pot full of something delicious.

Games for grown ups

For some folks, board games conjure childhood memories of a sibling who won at every dang board game the family played together.

Monopoly, Risk, Scrabble, Clue … didn’t matter the game, that one sibling was always gloating and fist-pumping over yet another victory while others sat there silently seething, the picture of good sportsmanship.

If that was your childhood, you can revisit that same fury as an adult, this time with friends or people you might not necessarily know, at “Board Games for Grown Ups” at Kenton County Public Library tonight.

If you were the sibling that always won at board games, then you likely already have this event on your calendar.

The event’s name itself seems to imply that everyone will behave in a mature fashion. So, plan on some healthy competition, intrigue, and keen strategy without a hint of sibling rivalry. Details HERE.

Diggin’ it with Chantelle

With Chantelle & The Digs, that is.

Eat some smoked wings while you listen to their smokin’ hot music at Smoke Justis tonight. That’ll make for a triple smokin’ hot Thursday. More HERE.

Coffee beans & wax

Coffee is so much more than a way to begin a day. The very scent can elevate a mood.

That’s why the good folks at Local Studio 325 are going to show you how to make candles with coffee beans … and some other ingredients that please the olfactory system.

They’ve got a candle-making workshop on Friday, and they’ll teach you all the basic skills that go into making your very own candles.

You’ll make a candle with florals, one with mixed scents, and one with coffee beans. All materials are provided. There’s a fee. Details HERE.

10 years of farm fresh goodness

The Covington Farmers Market is celebrating its 10th year of operations in Roebling Point so expect to see some cool new merchandise, a special logo, and be sure to watch for celebrations throughout the season.

Here’s what’s in-season right now and what you can expect to find on Saturday: head lettuce, microgreens, wheatgrass, lettuce mix, broccoli, and cabbage.

They’ll also have farm fresh meats, eggs, honey, cornmeal, pickles, and jelly. … and artisan food and beverages like sauerkraut, kimchi, soy sauce, tofu, cold pressed juices, and wine.

You also need to know that the Covington Farmers Market is nominated for City Beat’s “Best in Cincy” best “Eats” in the “Farmers Market” category. We’re sharing the link HERE so you can cast your vote right now.

So, come on Cov, let’s show our Covington Farmers Market all the love it deserves. More about Saturday’s market, HERE.

Game day

Who Dey think gonna beat those Bengals on Saturday? Not the Tennessee Titans. We’ll see of course, but, you know, the power of a positive thought and all, right?

If you want to cheer (or scream) in public with like-minded fans and would like someone else to prepare the wings and dips, there are surely plenty of options. And wherever you go, one thing is for sure: the beer will be cold.

A couple of game-watching options in The Cov are the Cincinnati Bengals vs. Tennessee Titans Watch Party at Braxton Brewing Co. More HERE. … and the Watch Party at Keystone Bar & Grill. More HERE

Your Ol’ Pal Don Pruett

He’s a songwriter from Ohio and he’s making his debut at Wunderbar on Saturday. But we don’t need to tell you all that, ‘cause he’s already your ‘ol’ pal.’

Tagging along with Your Ol’ Pal Don Pruett will be Markus Rask on the fiddle and Angus Cady on the bass (don’t you get jealous sometimes over people’s cool names?).

Word is it’s “pretty decent music.” More HERE.
