Trash & recycling holiday schedule: Few changes

COVINGTON, Ky. – The holidays are a lot of work: Wrapping, baking, decorating, stringing lights, cleaning etc. etc.

But as your trash and recycling carts start to fill up, there’s no need to stress: Trash & recycling pickup for Covington residents will follow the normal schedule next week leading up to Christmas. (The same will hold true for the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day, actually, thanks to the holidays falling on Saturday.)

The only change, Rumpke Waste & Recycling tells us, is that commercial customers who usually see service on Saturday will instead get picked up on Friday.

Transfer station

However, there ARE changes to the hours at the Covington Transfer Station at the western end of Boron Drive. Here’s the holiday schedule there:

  • Christmas Eve (Friday): 8 a.m. – Noon.
  • Christmas Day (Saturday): Closed.
  • New Year’s Eve (Friday): 8 a.m. – Noon.
  • New Year’s Day (Saturday): Closed.

Meanwhile, a few reminders that will help all of us reduce waste in landfills and mitigate the subsequent negative impact on the environment:

  • LIGHTS: If you have holiday lights that aren’t working, you can drop them off in recycling bins at City Hall and several other places. See HERE for details.
  • TREES: If you put up a natural tree, we want to turn it into mulch after you take it down. Details to come in a separate news release next week.
  •  RECYCLING: Our biweekly “Recycle Right Wednesday” feature recently shared actions you can take to make the holidays less wasteful. See HERE.
