City Hall closed Thursday, Friday

COVINGTON, Ky. – “Happy Thanksgiving” a couple of days early from the City of Covington – exactly 402 years after the first Thanksgiving celebration was allegedly held in Virginia … 232 years after President Washington proclaimed the first nationwide celebration … and 82 years after President (Franklin D.) Roosevelt affixed a permanent date to the national holiday (changing it two years later with the help of Congress to its current “fourth Thursday” status).

Amid the weight of all that history, City offices in Covington will be closed both Thursday and Friday – meaning hurry down Wednesday if you have business at City Hall that can’t wait, otherwise we’ll see you Monday.

Meanwhile, a few Thanksgiving-related “tips”: Make sure you cook that turkey all the way through (but leave the venison a little pink or even red inside) … drumsticks are the best part of a turkey … yams and sweet potatoes are not the same thing … serve can-molded cranberry sauce with trepidation … forgo the TV in favor of family conversation … don’t drink and drive … and take steps to keep those unvaxed (and vaxed) safe from COVID-19.
