Leave it loose

(EDITOR'S NOTE: This is another in a series of recycling tips from the City of Covington's Neighborhood Services Department, Solid Waste & Recycling Division.)

COVINGTON, Ky. – Today’s “Recycle Right Wednesday” piece is less a “tip” than a “plea,” “command,” “admonition” and “exasperated reminder.”

We don't mean to shout, but STOP BAGGING YOUR RECYCLABLES!

Plastic bags get tangled up in the recycling line equipment. Cutting the bags away from gears and equipment both wastes time and is a safety hazard.

Instead, leave your soft drink and soup cans, plastic bottles, paper, tubs, and cartons loose in your City-issued green recycling cart.

The ONLY exception is if you shred documents and want to recycle all those little pieces of paper. Those can and should be placed in a CLEAR plastic bag.

Again, leave your recyclables loose in your cart. Simple as that.
