Help the hungry, help the earth

COVINGTON, Ky. – Earth Day 2021 came and went (there’s only 359 days until the next one), but the mission – and the opportunities – continue year round.

Local grocer Kroger can help:

Most of us know that Kroger has long accepted plastic bags and film for recycling through its Bag-2-Bag program, and you might even know that Kroger recently partnered with Terracycle to accept even more types of flexible plastic for recycling, HERE.

But did you know that helping the hungry can also help the earth?

Kroger says its Zero Hunger, Zero Waste program, seen HERE, targets an incomprehensible equation: 40 percent of food produced in the United States is thrown away, yet 1 in 9 people go hungry.

How can you participate?
  • Reduce food waste by buying “imperfect” produce – (some stores actually have an “imperfect produce section” with lower prices).
  • Round up your purchase by selecting the Zero Hunger, Zero Waste button at checkout.
