Suspension Bridge inspection starts Monday

Lane closure expected Tuesday; walkways to stay open

COVINGTON, Ky. - Be extra careful driving on the John S. Roebling Suspension Bridge next week.

Starting Monday, crews doing a routine inspection will be rappelling on the cables and towers to get a hands-on look at the structure, with work happening 8 a.m.-6 p.m. On Tuesday, one of the traffic lanes will be closed from 8:30 a.m. until about 4 p.m., with flaggers directing traffic.

However, the pedestrian walkways will remain open during the inspection, according to a release today from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 6 Office.

The work will depend on the weather. If needed, inspectors will return the following week, KYTC said.

The bridge is over 150 years old and carries 8,100 vehicles a day.
