Honoring your father

COVINGTON, Ky. - There are a gazillion (individualized and spur-of-the-moment) ways to celebrate Father’s Day this weekend in #LoveTheCov.

You could - for example - go canoeing or kayaking on the Licking and Ohio rivers, fish at Prisoners Lake (get a license though), buy him a six-pack of unique craft brew from Braxton Brewing Company, take a walk on the Licking River Greenway & Trail, help him plant a garden, or eat out of doors at one of Covington’s vast array of unique restaurants (calling ahead is a good idea).

Or you could join him at one of these events:

Biking 101
Maybe your Dad is athletic but in need a new sport.

Sign him up for what essentially is a mountain bike riding 101 class on Saturday at Covington’s Devou Park.

The GOT DIRT Mountain Bike Beginner Skills Clinic will cover foundational skills like bike and body positions, climbing and descending, drops, and log rollovers.

Info and registration, HERE.

Bike trails volunteering
Of course off-road bikes need trails to roll on ... so come Sunday, make Dad an early morning cup of coffee and drive him to Devou Park for the Third-Sunday Trailday.

It’s a monthly gathering of hard-working people who maintain the biking and hiking trails in Devou’s “back country.”

Bring gloves, water and safety glasses. Eat pizza with the Cincinnati Off-Road Alliance afterward. Info, HERE

Open-air market
By now it should be a tradition: get fresh vegetables and locally produced foods at the open-air Covington Farmers Market on Saturday morning.

With offerings ranging from microgreens to eggs to honey to baked goods, support local growers and producers.

Wear a mask, follow the rules. Info, HERE.

Bacon & blooms
Dad like flowers?

Last week’s theme was “bagels and blooms” when Scarlet Begonia’s Flower Truck parked outside Lil’s Bagels. This week, the theme is “bacon and blooms,” as the truck moves across town to park outside Crafts & Vines in MainStrasse Village early Saturday afternoon.

C&V will feature smoked bacon-wrapped meatloaf sliders as its Saturday special, to go along with the “gorgeously big bouquets.”

Info, HERE.

Playing the keys
Cincinnati’s Ben Levin (2020 Blues Music Award nominee) will bring his blues-piano playing to the bourbon bar at Smoke Justis! on Friday evening.

Seating will be spread out to allow for social distancing, and music will be piped into all the rooms in the restaurant-bar in Roebling Point.

Info, HERE.

Acoustic fun
Thomas Hayes Freel - aka 4REELrocks - will bring his “acoustic fun and madness” to Mac’s Pizza Pub in MainStrasse Village on Saturday.

Influences? He says Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix.

Info, HERE.
