Dreamcoats, Bavaria & stomach massages

COVINGTON, Ky. - Nine days in, and you’re still strong on those New Year’s Resolutions, right?

So if they involved a new “you” trying something new, we have an array of suggestions below this weekend in #LoveTheCov, all of them perfect for the dreary days of January.

.. azure & lemon & russet & grey
That amazing coat of many colors and a whole lot of catchy singing (with a little Bible history thrown in) comes to Covington this weekend with the opening of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.”

Listen as Joseph, Jacob and the Elvis-sounding pharaoh tell their tales at The Carnegie. Saturday is opening night, Sunday a matinee.

Experimental makers’ workshop
What’s the Trial and Error Club? Let the folks at Pique art space answer:

“Are you a recent graduate or working artist looking to expand your practice? Have a project you’ve been dreaming about? Or are you just looking to work through the frustrations of art making with a creative hive-mind?”

The yearlong experimental maker’s club, led by local artist Kat Burke, begins Sunday with the first of four workshops. It ends with an exhibition that starts in November.

Taste of Covington’s past ... in cans
Everybody’s heard of Bavarian-style beer. But “Bavarian Beer” with a capital “B” - well old-time beer drinkers know that was made by the Bavarian Brewery, established in Covington in 1866, in that huge building near I-75 that now houses county offices. Until 1966, when it closed.

Three years ago, Braxton Brewing revived the Bavarian Brand heritage with its own version of that old-style lager ... and on Saturday, for the first time, you can get Bavarian Select Lager in cans.

The can-release party includes limited-edition prints, a warm soft-pretzel bar, a little history, and live music.
