RX for end of daylight savings

COVINGTON, Ky. - If the dreary weather and the end of daylight savings have you feeling low, we have what the doctor ordered in #LoveTheCov this weekend ... (and it’s not more cowbell).

Try belly dancing (with wine). Tarot cards. Edible cookie dough. Drinking a beer to honor military veterans who have a second career protecting the public here in Covington. Helping a new boutique (for kids) celebrate its opening. Creating your own comics. See “Proof” at The Carnegie. Or check out the Covington Farmers Market’s new indoor digs.

(Or, barring all that, you can leave Covington and sneak into the woods with over a quarter of a million other hardy souls in Kentucky this weekend in search of Odocoileus virginianus. Technically, that event won’t happen in #LoveTheCov, but think of all the cookouts you’ll be equipped to host next year in Covington ... should you prove successful.)

Rivalry at Braxton: FOP vs. Local 38
Tangerine wheat or American Pale Ale?

FOP or Local 38?

Monday’s holiday will be particularly meaningful at the City of Covington, where nearly 50 military veterans serve in its Police and Fire departments - not to count those up at the Public Works garage or down at City Hall itself. Ahead of the solemnity of Veterans Day, however, comes the festivity Friday night at Braxton Brewing.

Join the party, and if you drink one of those brews, Braxton will donate $1 to the support groups for the police and fire unions.

Goody, goody Gumdrop
“Gumdrop” can refer to dome-shaped pectin-based pieces of candy ... to the company that recycles ABC (“already been chewed”) gum into polymers ... or to hard cases for tablets and laptops.

Come Saturday, it will also reference a cute new baby/toddler boutique on Pike Street.

Directly across from City Hall, Handzy Shop + Studio is expanding with its newest baby brand, Gumdrop, right next door. A Grand Opening Party will celebrate the new shop and the expanded version of Handzy itself.

Oh no, the Tower card!
Candlelit room. Foretelling impending doom. Tales of your fortune bloom. Does this sound like the perfect ladies’ night for you?

If so, grab your gal pals and head to Stoney’s Village Toy Shoppe on Friday for Ladies Night Tarot Card Reading.

‘Judgment-free, happy souls’
Continuing #LoveTheCov’s embrace of all sorts of ways to stay in shape and have fun, there’s this: Belly dancing and wine.

Warrior Spirit Wellness is hosting the class on Friday evening, and you can either BYOB or drink theirs.

And how can you not love the Latonia studio’s ad for attendees: “Calling all fun-seeking, judgment-free, happy souls.”

Indeed.

Enough to cure your sweet tooth
Confession time: We eat cookie dough. In fact, sometimes we prefer it to the baked version. Right out of the mixing bowl or package. Salmonella poisoning? Pshaw. Not likely.

Why is that relevant? Because on Friday, the founder and CEO of DŌ, Cookie Dough Confections will be in Covington to share how she cured her sweet tooth with the world’s first edible cookie dough.

Come hear Kristen Tomlan as part of the Female Founder Lunch, hosted by Aviatra Accelerators.

24-hour comics
Write and draw a 24-page comic in 24 hours (or work in a team) during the “24-hour Comic” at Pique studio, starting Saturday at noon.

You bring paper, supplies and snacks. The studio will provide coffee, table and chairs.

(Note: You don’t have to stay the entire 24 hours.)

It’s free. Info, HERE.

Farmers Market, winter style
