Covington seeks zoning administrator

COVINGTON, Ky. - Covington is looking for a zoning and development specialist to replace Alex Koenig, who is leaving after three years to return to Arkansas.

The position carries a range of duties, many of them focused on administering the City’s zoning code, reviewing proposed development and construction documents, and working with other Economic Development Department team members on business retention and real estate development.

“This position is ideal for someone who is a problem solver who seeks to balance often-competing interests and viewpoints, enjoys working with people from all walks of life, and wants a job where - on any given day - you’re tackling both routine tasks and new and unexpected plans and issues,” Koenig said.

The job posting can be seen HERE.

The position has already drawn an array of interest, given the flurry of economic activity in Covington and its recent work to transform its approach to zoning, Economic Development Director Tom West said.

“Alex has been a key - and busy - member of our team, especially lately. This is an exciting time in Covington with multiple urban revitalization projects underway and a new approach to zoning in the works,” West said.

“The City is working with a team of national consultants to move from a Euclidean code to a hybrid form-based development code that is more flexible and more appropriate given our historic character. Our new administrator will help manage the development of this new code and administer it when it’s complete in 2020.”

The City has set no deadline for applications but wants to fill the position as soon as it can, West said.
