City Seeks Applications for Firefighter/Paramedic

We are currently accepting applications for Firefighter/Paramedic in preparation for our upcoming entrance exam, which will be administrated on Saturday, May 18, 2019. Potential new hires must possess a Kentucky paramedic license or NREMT paramedic license upon appointment.

Currently already a Firefighter? No worries, lateral entry recruits will be paid according to the following pay scale based on consecutive years of career firefighting, as defined by the state of transfer:

Experience                     Entry Level
3-5 years                        Grade 2 ($44,739.84)
5-7 Years                        Grade 3 ($49,110.86)
More than 7 Years         Grade 4 ($55,603.16)

Lateral hires will be placed on the seniority list at the date of hire; no other seniority privileges apply.

Salary:                                    $37,647.79 (Grade 1 Paramedic)

In addition to your salary, you’ll also receive the State Incentive $4,000, Kelly Day, Holiday Pay $1,809.99 Uniform Allowance $1,068.61 and Medic Certification pay if applicable $3,740.14. SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, engages directly in emergency medical care and transportation, firefighting activities, and fire prevention activities, including but not limited to the following:
  • Functioning as an integral component of a team while responding to calls for service during an assigned shift
  • Critical, time-sensitive, complex problem solving during physical exertion in stressful, hazardous environments while connecting and laying hose lines, administering first aid, and operating nozzles, pumps, and other special equipment as assigned.
  • Provides unparalleled customer service in advanced level pre-hospital Emergency Medical Care and transportation to an appropriate medical facility
  • Observes fire hazards and violations of fire laws and regulations, keep records and assist in the preparation of reports.
