Sweaters, cookies & the Big Man

COVINGTON, Ky. - Of course there’s a holiday theme this weekend. It’s a week and a half before Christmas.

So there’s the ugly sweater pub crawls, the visits with Santa (or his neighborhood fill-in), cookie decorating parties, reading events for kids, public singing and of course special shopping.

All in #LoveTheCov.

2018 says ‘bye’ to Farmers Market
Whether you’re buying Christmas presents or stocking up for the hard winter ahead, Saturday will be your last chance to visit the Covington Farmer’s Market in 2018. (There’s a new location and arrangement come Jan. 5).

The market will feature lots of Kentucky Proud products (officially sanctioned), plus free yoga and live music. It’s from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Braxton Brewing Co.

Info, HERE.

‘Art’ for sale
OK, the quotes around the word “art” are intentional, because here’s your chance to buy things that are outside the box of conventional art - maybe welded creations, or books, or fashion designs (sewn), or who knows.

It’s the “Outside of the Canvas” show at the Pique Gallery, on Saturday. Info, HERE.

Shout out w/ glee, go down in history
The whole ugly Christmas sweater thing might be getting old, but it’s still fun - especially when you’re traveling through Covington with friends visiting bars and winning prizes and enjoying beverages.

It’s the Ugly Sweater and Reindeer Games Covington Pub Crawl on Saturday evening, starting at The Globe at 7 p.m. and finishing at Braxton Brewing Company. Info, HERE.

Or go to MainStrasse Village and do the same thing, also Saturday, starting at the House of Orange at 8 p.m. Info, HERE.

Breakfast with Santa
It’s a timeless tradition - kids eating breakfast with the Big Man. Saturday morning at Devou Golf & Event Center.

Registration includes breakfast bar, a hot chocolate bar, a photo with Santa, crafts and more.

Info, HERE.

Cookies cookies cookies
There’s Girl Scout Cookies, and then there’s Christmas cookies, which are better because you get to make ‘em your way. And spread on icing, and press on Red Hot candies, and make ‘em look like snowmen or elves or reindeer or dead reindeer (you know you did that as a kid).

Sunday, Braxton Brewing Company is hosting a cookie-decorating party in its Garage.

While supplies last, HERE.

Behind Santa’s song
Ever heard of Haven Gillespie? No. But surely you’ve heard his iconic Christmas tune, “Santa Claus is Coming To Town.”

Learn more about the song on Saturday afternoon with author Kathy Witt and photographer John Witt, then watch the showing of the 1970 stop motion classic.

It’s a family-friendly event, and copies of Witt’s “Secret Cincinnati” book will be for sale. Info, HERE.

Trail Day at Devou
And if you drank too much, or ate too many cookies, and you need to burn off some calories, and you love being outside in the cold ... there’s the monthly trail-clearing day at Devou Park’s backcountry trails, on Sunday.

Info, HERE.

Old-fashioned caroling
This is Monday night, so technically not the weekend, but it IS in Covington and it WILL be fun:

Join in Christmas caroling (you know, going door to door while singing holiday classics) on Monday evening in and around The Center for Great Neighborhoods, starting at the corner of Russell and West Robbins. Info, HERE.

Miscellaneous
And then there’s another weekend of holiday storytime for kids at Behringer-Crawford Museum, on Sunday, HERE ... a holiday-inspired cardio sculpting jam session Saturday at Braxton Brewing Co., HERE ... a wood sign painting class Saturday at Chroma Vino, HERE ... live music with Easter Rising at Molly Malones on Saturday, HERE ... the Covington Street Hockey League Toy Drive & Ugly Sweater Party on Saturday at Gypsys, HERE ... or live music with Hyryder appearing Saturday at Octave, HERE ...
