Finance walk-in window expands hours

COVINGTON, Ky. - Covington City Hall is temporarily expanding its hours to make it more convenient for residents to pay their property taxes.

Come Monday, the Finance Customer Service walk-in window - located just inside the entrance to City Hall at 20 West Pike St. - will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Currently the window is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The window is where residents can come in person to pay property taxes, which are due by Oct. 15, as well as any other tax bill, fee or fine owed the City.

“This change is happening for one reason only: To help our residents,” Covington Finance Director Muhammed Owusu said. “A lot of our residents have jobs, so they’re busy during regular business hours. We don’t want them to have to go in late or take off early just to pay their taxes.”

Owusu said he is reorganizing some City employees’ work day to staff the window.

The change will be temporary, with the window’s hours reverting to its current 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. schedule after Oct. 15, the deadline for property taxes to be paid.

Residents have five ways to pay their tax bill:

 At the window.
  • Through an updated, user friendly online program. There are two paths to the online taxpayer portal from the City website’s home page, which is HERE. Clicking the “Make a Payment” logo leads to the general tax page. Clicking “Property Tax” under the “Forms & Documents” section leads directly to the taxpayer portal, HERE.
  • By mail at P.O. Box 643749, Cincinnati, OH 45264.
  • By calling (859) 292-2180.
  • By dropping the payment off in a secure, after-hours drop box that appears as a slot on the outside wall of City Hall (to the left of the main entrance but not under the overhang).
The property tax rate this year is the same as last year.
