City Schedules 2017 Fall Trash Amnesty Week October 23-27

COVINGTON, KY – In anticipation of the changing seasons and fall yard work, the City of Covington has scheduled a Trash Amnesty Week for the week of October 23-27, 2017.

In addition to the trash contained inside the City-issued trash carts, residents can place up to three large items and ten 30-gallon bags of trash at the curb during amnesty weeks without using a green sticker. This trash will be collected during regularly scheduled trash days.

Residents should still prepare large items for collection. For example, mattresses, box springs and upholstered furniture should be wrapped and sealed in plastic. Freon should be properly removed from appliances.

Leaves and grass clippings should be contained in either paper or plastic bags. Branches, loose shrubbery or lumber must be bundled and tied in lengths no larger than 4 feet long and 2 feet wide. Bundles should not exceed 50 pounds. Bagged yard waste counts toward the ten bag limit.

To dispose of additional trash outside of amnesty weeks, residents must use one of the 12 City-issued green stickers for bulk items and/or excessive trash outside the cart. Each green sticker allows residents to dispose of one large item or an additional six bags of trash. See green sticker for additional details.

Covington adopted the green sticker program in an effort to help keep neighborhoods and City streets and sidewalks clean.

When placing additional materials or large items at the curb outside of amnesty weeks, the City encourages residents to notify Rumpke by calling 1-877-786-7537.

The next 2017 Trash Amnesty Week is scheduled to take place the week of December 25-29.
