Covington Partners with Passport Parking to Launch New Mobile Parking Payment App

COVINGTON, KY – On Monday, the City of Covington announced the launch of the mobile parking app, PassportParking®. The innovative technology allows users the option to conveniently pay for parking using their phone.

Using the PassportParking app, users can purchase parking with a debit or credit card, monitor and receive notifications when their session runs low, view all parking history, and extend time remotely.

Development Director/City Engineer Mike Yeager stated, “The City wants to make parking a simple and convenient process for residents and visitors.

“By partnering with Passport, the industry leader for mobile payment technology, we’re able to provide parkers with an enhanced parking experience."

The PassportParking app is free and available for download at the App Store and Google Play. It is important for users to note, there is a $.25 convenience fee with each parking purchase.  Visitors are still able to pay for parking using cash at the meters.

To pay for parking with the mobile app, users will open the app and enter in the zone number, the unique meter number displayed on the meter sticker and the amount of time they would like to purchase. The parking zone number will be identified on the meter sticker as well as on nearby street signs (photographs featured above).

Once this information is entered, the user will complete their transaction. Upon completion, a receipt will be emailed to the user confirming the purchase. Users can customize notification settings, allowing for reminders to be sent as they near the end of their allotted session.

Informational Passport app signage will be installed on each block where meters are located throughout Covington (please note, signs will be located on one side of the street and not both sides). Additionally, Passport app stickers containing the unique meter number have been placed on each of the individual meters.

Residents and visitors who already use Cincinnati’s mobile parking app, Cincy EZPark, will have the ability to pay for parking in Covington with either their PassportParking or Cincy EZPark application.

Passport Project Manager April Dickerson stated, “Passport is proud to bring our mobile application to the City of Covington. Providing residents and visitors with an efficient way to handle their parking needs through their smartphone device gives them an enhanced user experience, as well as opens up the door to new technology initiatives for the city.”

Passport powers the parking apps of other large cities across North America, including Boston, Chicago, Cincinnati, and Detroit.
