The Iron Throne, key lime brew & spinning clay

COVINGTON, Ky. - Monday is Memorial Day, and we hope you take a few moments at some point to ponder the sacrifices that many families in this area and around the nation have made.

Now we know this is a big cook-out weekend, but you also can go to GOT trivia night (if you don’t know what “GOT” refers to, you’ve been living in a cave, and not the one that Jon and Ygritte were in, either) ... participate in a 5K run and walk to raise money for the hungry ... check out the release of an unusual beer flavor ... head down to Baker Hunt for some fun and sign up for MORE fun ... and do some yoga in all sorts of places.

Wise about Westeros?
If you haven’t see Game of Thrones, you’re probably tired of hearing about it. If you’re a fanatic about it, you probably can’t get enough of it.

Fans of the just-ended show will be interested in this on Friday night: Games of Thrones Trivia Night at Keystone Bar & Grill.

Themed cocktails - you know, like “Blood of the Dragon” - will be available. Info, HERE.

Not your pappy’s beer (flavor)
There used to be something called beer, as in regular ol’ beer. But that “flavor” is a thing of the plain ol’ past, friends.

Friday morning will provide some of the strongest evidence yet, as Braxton Brewing Co. and Graeter’s Ice Cream combine to hold Key Lime Pie Tapping & Can Release Weekend. As they describe it, “flavors of authentic key lime and hints of graham cracker crust hit the palate like a tangy and sweet wave of refreshment.”

Come get a pint, or a 4-pack to take home. There will be donuts too. Info, HERE.

Walking the walk
Feeling like doing good and getting exercise at the same time?

Besides being Memorial Day, Monday is also the 16th Annual Hunger Walk and 5K Run, which raises funds that benefit the partners of the Freestore Foodbank in 20 counties, including agencies right here in Covington.

The route spans the Ohio River via the Clay Wade Bailey Bridge.

For info and to register, see HERE.

Get a little messy on ‘date night’
Tired of “date night” consisting of the same ol’ dinner and movie?

Try something totally different Friday night and head to Baker Hunt Art & Cultural Center, where you can throw on the wheel at “Date Night Pottery Wheel.”

Yes, it’s couples’ pottery/ceramics, and all skill levels are welcome. The cool thing is that your creations will be glazed, fired, and ready for pickup in just a few weeks.

Info and tickets, HERE.

L.E. Herbmania comes thru
Ready for spring planting but need some plants?

Head to the Latonia Elementary Herbmania and Urban Garden on Saturday, where most plants will cost $1 at the Memorial Day Weekend (blowout) Plant Sale.

They also have a surplus of heirloom tomato plants.

Info, HERE.

Kids’ activities at the Farmers Market
Come get your fresh produce on Saturday (plus baked goods, meats, eggs etc. etc.) at the Covington Farmers Market. The fourth Saturday of the month has a kids’ theme, with activities from the Kenton County Public Library and at the nearby Children’s Garden.
