The City of Covington Fire Department provides Fire/Rescue and Emergency Medical Services to a population of 40,640, cover 13.7 miles of mixed residential and commercial property and make 12,500 runs annually. The City has 2 major interstates that cross through the city I-75 that run north and south and I-275 that run east and west. The city is bordered by the Ohio River to the North and the Licking River to the East. Electronic applications can be found on the City of Covington website under the employment tab.
Qualified candidates must:
- The candidate must have at least two (2) years of experience as a full-time firefighter-paramedic.
- The candidate must be licensed as an Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic with the Kentucky Board of Emergency Medical Services (KBEMS) or provide evidence of certification with the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians as aEMT-P.

The candidate shall provide evidence that he/she is certified as a professional firefighter under the guidelines set forth by the Kentucky Fire Commission or equivalent.
- The candidate must submit to and pass an investigation of character, which may include investigation into criminal background, educational background, past employment history, personal background, credit standing, and any other relative information discovered during the course of investigation which might relate to the applicant's qualifications.
- The candidate must complete a pre-employment physical examination consistent with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standard1582 which may include drug screen.
- The candidate will complete an educational examination and one or more oral interview(s).
- The candidate must take and pass the standardized Candidate Physical Ability Test ( CPAT) prior to hire date.
- The candidate must take and pass a psychological suitability screener examination, and, if necessary, any additional psychological examination performed by a licensed psychologist;

- ACLS, PAHT required and PALS preferred

"Lateral Entry" recruits will be paid according to the following current pay scale based on consecutive years of career firefighting, as defined by the state of transfer:
Experience Entry Level
3-5 years Grade 2
5-7 Years Grade 3
More than 7 Years Grade 4
Lateral hires will be placed on the seniority list at the date of hire; no other seniority privileges apply.
