Roadwork Update

Status Update of Work on City and State-owned Roads in Covington

Southern/Latonia Reconstruction

Complete reconstruction of this road and installation of underdrains to control groundwater.

Status: Good progress is being made on phase II of the project.  Traffic is currently driving on new pavement and is still limited to one way travel.  The lime stabilization for the base has been completed, the edge drains have been installed, and the project is still on schedule to be completed by Thanksgiving.

 

Caroline Underpass

Complete reconstruction of this underpass and installation of underdrains to control groundwater.

Status: The Caroline Underpass is currently closed to all traffic except for emergency vehicles.  A signed detour is in place to direct vehicles to KY 16 and access to all residential buildings will be maintained.  The intersection of 34th and Caroline is also closed to all traffic except for emergency vehicles.  These closures will remain until the reconstruction of the roadway has been completed.  The contractors have been working on replacing the combined stormwater and sanitary sewer system and making roadway repairs to Caroline between 33rd and 34th Street and they are making good progress.

 

Lake Park Drive

Complete reconstruction of the deteriorated sections of roadway.

Status: The contractors have completed their work on this project.  Some slab replacements on Rolling Hills while the contractor is out there may be added. The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year; two-way traffic will be maintained.

 

Streetscape

Sidewalk replacement, underground utilities, rain gardens, street trees, decorative benches/garbage cans/sign posts).

Status: Project to be completed by end of year. The contractors have completed everything on Madison Avenue between 7th and 8th and are currently working on the 500 block.  The electricians are installing the conduit for the underground utilities.  Once that has been installed the sidewalks will be replaced.  Duke is also scheduling time to come in and remove the utility poles.

 

Sidewalk Repairs

A city-wide project and schedule to improve sidewalks throughout the City.

Status: the South Covington and Latonia section was awarded to Prus and they plan to begin work soon.  Work will be completed in the spring.   

 

Eastern Avenue Slide 

The existing tie back walls will be extended to correct the slide that continues to worsen near Meiken Field.

Status: Project was awarded to Scherzinger and they plan to begin work the middle of November.      

   

Parkway Bridge Repairs

The project will repair the concrete spalling on the underside of the bridge and seal the joints on the top of the bridge along the sidewalk to prevent further water damage.

Status: Intech has completed the work on this project.       

 

Madison Avenue 4th and 5th Streetscape

Underground utilities and sidewalk replacement on the east side of Madison between Tobacco Alley and 5th Street.

Status: Project was awarded to Hendy.  They plan to start as soon as the complete the larger Streetscape project around Thanksgiving.     

 

Mobile Home Park Demo/Grading

The items remaining on the mobile home site will be removed and the site will be regraded.

Status: JP Excavating was awarded the contract and the work will be completed by end of year or by early in the spring.

 

6th Street and Scott Boulevard Project

This project will create a gateway at 6th and Scott Boulevard to both Madison Avenue and Mainstrasse.

Status: Currently in design phase to form a plan to create a gateway between Madison and Mainstrasse.  Project will include underground utilities and sidewalk replacement.

 

Pike Street Triangle

Sidewalk and aesthetic improvements to the corner of Pike and 8th Street.

Status: Adleta was awarded the contract and will begin work next week.  The work should be completed this year.   

 

Riverside Drive

Roadway and sidewalk stabilization project.  Geotechnical review will begin within the next few weeks to determine necessary design.

Status: Coordinating geotechnical borings with Riverfront Commons Schedule.

 

Highway Avenue Fence

The chain link fence along the north side of Highway Avenue will be replaced with a decorative fence.

Status: KYTC working on agreement to authorize funds for this project.

 

Riverfront Commons Phase I

This project will improve the City's Riverfront along the Ohio River from the base of Greenup Street, west to Route 8.

Status: Woolpert, Inc. was selected as the design engineer for the project.  A kickoff meeting has been held to begin to finalize the design plan.
