This memorial park commemorates Lance Cpl. Justin D. Sims, who died April 15, 2006, when his HMMWV struck an improvised explosive device during combat operations in Al Anbar province, Iraq. Sims was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C. Sims lived with his mother, Alma Jones, in Covington, and attended Holmes High School, where he graduated in 2003. The small park at the intersection of West 16th St. and Euclid Ave.  offers a neighborhood playground and picnic table.
