The City of Covington has a number of boards and commissions on which city residents serve. Under Kentucky law, the Mayor appoints the members of these boards and commissions, subject to the approval of the City Commission. The various city boards and commissions, along with those citizens who serve on them, can be seen below.

MISSION

  • Assist in drafting a tree ordinance to regulate the planting, maintenance, and removal of City-owned trees, shrubs, and other plants.
  • Assist in the development of a tree planting master plan and best-practices management plan. 
  • Educate citizens and assist neighborhood groups on urban forestry concerns and programs. 
  • Review plant and site development plans for compliance with the tree ordinance.
  • Promote the goals of the Urban Forest Program, including the value, protection, management, and the enhancement of the urban forest resources of Covington.
  • Advise and assist the Urban Forester in:
    • Developing and updating on a yearly basis the Covington Comprehensive Urban Forest Plan (CUFP);
    • Developing and periodically updating the Covington Urban Forestry Best Management Practices;
    • Reviewing project plans for publicly sponsored developments, civic improvements, and changes to the public right-of-way, and making recommendations;
    • Developing and conducting educational and outreach urban forest programs for the public;
    • Seeking grants for the Covington Urban Forest Program;
    • Planning tree planting and maintenance programs for the trees, shrubs and other plants under Covington's jurisdiction; and
    • Developing and implementing the Landmark Tree Program.
    • Advise and assist the City Commission and city departments on issues related to urban forestry concerns.
    • Serve as a clearinghouse for information related to the urban forest, through the Department of Parks and Recreation.
    • Advise and assist with the development of legislation and policies that affect the city's urban forest.

 

MEETINGS

  • 6:30 p.m.
  • Meetings will be held at First Financial Bank, 601 Madison Avenue, Covington, KY 41011.

  • As of September 22, 2022, the Covington Urban Forestry Board voted to move their regular meetings from the 4th Thursday of the month to the fourth Tuesday of the month.
