The Roost & the Green House

COVINGTON, Ky. - This weekend is a little more interesting than the last few: A pop-up art show ... a birthday party for a restaurant ... a first look at a coffee, cocktails and art shop in Latonia ... a trail day ... and an opening in MainStrasse Village.

Plus live music and more.

One-of-a-kind art
Whether it’s a painting on the wall, a sculpture on the fireplace mantel, or a figure on the windowsill, we all have “art” around the house.

And if you’re going to display something, why shouldn’t it be a “conversation starter” - you know, a piece with a story behind it? A piece that’s unique, locally created by an artist who you can learn a little about?

In LoveTheCov this weekend, there is an opportunity to secure such a piece:

Purple Paisley, Local Artisan Shop is holding a pop-up market in its parking lot all day Saturday, with five to seven artists set up. Judging by what you can see in the shop itself on a daily basis, this is not to miss. Info, HERE.

Introducing ‘The Roost’
You’ve watched the façade slowly change. Now come see the inside.

The Roost in Latonia - a few doors down from Ritte’s Corner - is a new lounge featuring “art, coffee, cocktails and a whole lotta quirk!”

On Friday and Saturday, you can check out the place while rummaging through the “coop” and discovering antiques, treasures and more during its first “Chicken Pickin’s” event.

But you HAVE to reserve a ticket and be assigned a time. Info, HERE.

Parlor on Seventh, now 1
Bourbon raffles, gift cards, surprises from Chef Mike, Happy Hour surprises, maybe even birthday cake to go with birthday drinks.

Parlor on Seventh restaurant is celebrating its first year, and you’re invited to the weekend-long party. Sounds like a plan to us.

Info, HERE.

Heirloom tomatoes & more
Farmers and backyard gardeners already know this, but what’s the “hot” produce (i.e. “in season”) at the Covington Farmers Market?

An array of heirloom tomatoes, basil, summer squash, zucchini, cucumbers, mushrooms, sprouts, sweet and hot peppers - everything you need to turn your salad, side dishes and entrees into something fabulous.

Of course, you can get a wide selection of food products at the weekly open-air market this Saturday at Third & Court.

As usual, abide by the safety rules. Info, HERE.

Working on the trail
Why pay to work out? Exercise outdoors for free and fulfill a public need.

It’s the Devou Third-Sunday Trailday, where you can help maintain and construct trails in Covington’s 700-acre park.

Bring water, gloves, and safety glasses, and you’ll be put to work.

Info, HERE.
