Events galore in #LoveTheCov

Sunday is Father’s Day, but there’s no need to take a long, expensive trip out of town to celebrate.

As usual, Covington is host to a long list of exciting events this weekend for all ages. Here are some of the highlights:

Ohio River Sweep

Join an estimated 13,000 volunteers from Pittsburgh to Cairo (Ill.) in picking up trash and debris along the Ohio River and its tributaries. Covington has three locations where dozens of volunteers will gather from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Prepare to get a little dirty - and have meaningful fun.

Bridge Folk Music & Art Festival

Think Woodstock, Lollapalooza, the Newport Folk Festival or Bonnaroo. Well ... something smaller - but plenty of fun. This one-day (all-day) free event features 10 local, national and international music acts in genres like folk, jazz and funk playing near the riverfront.

Besides music, there will be food, drink, artists and artisan vendors.

Bring your family and chairs or blankets to the Piazza at RiverCenter entertainment district (50 E. Rivercenter Blvd.) from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Goettafest

Celebrate this uniquely Northern Kentucky breakfast food with innovative dishes all weekend at the Braxton Brewing Co. Goettafest 2018 in MainStrasse Village.

Besides food and drink, there will be arts, crafts, music, entertainment and children’s activities, with hours 5 p.m.-11 p.m. Friday, noon-11 p.m. Saturday and noon-9 p.m. Sunday.

Covington Farmers Market

This weekly event features the best local produce, meats and eggs, soaps and lotions, teas, baked goods, sugar scrubs, nut milks and creamers, and prepared soups and salads, fermented foods, and ... (need we go on?)

This Saturday, Covington Farmers Market also features a workshop on sustainability called The Zero Waste Way, and live music.

Hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the corner of Third & Court streets.

Vegetable Plant Sale

Not as big as the Farmers Market, but the Latonia Elementary Herbmania and Urban Garden will be selling vegetable plants - like tomatoes, green peppers, squash and eggplant - from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday near the school at 3901 Huntington Ave. in Latonia.

It’s a good cause, and here is the group’s Facebook page: HERE.

Live tunes

Madison Live at 734 Madison Ave. downtown has concerts both Friday (Beloved Youth & Misnomer & Carriers) and Saturday (Russ Liquid Test & Justin Jay’s Fantastic Voyage) nights.

Devou trail

The monthly trail work day happens 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday at Devou Park in the backcountry portion.
