The 2018 NKY Restoration Weekend Takes Place Saturday March 10, Provides Useful Information for Owners of Historic Homes

COVINGTON, Ky. - The lineup of workshops is announced for the NKY Restoration Weekend scheduled for Saturday, March 10, 2018 from 9 am to 3:30 pm at the Newport Intermediate School located at 95 W 9th Street in Newport, KY.
 
NKY Restoration Weekend is a free event, providing home owners resources to better understand how to maintain their historic property all the while emphasizing the value of historic preservation. Visitors will have the opportunity to interact and speak with craftsmen, vendors, representatives from the Kentucky Heritage Council State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO), and other preservation experts.
 
Kentucky Heritage Council State Certified Local Government Program and Planning Coordinator Vicki Birenberg said, "Northern Kentucky Restoration Weekend is the premier historic preservation event in the state of Kentucky. It brings hundreds of property owners, preservation enthusiasts and advocates, local government decision-makers, educators, and the preservation trades together for the benefit of our shared culture and local economies."

With a wide array of classes, there is something for any owner of a historic or older home as well as individuals thinking about purchasing one. Workshops include the following topics:

*           Plaster repair
*           Taking care of your historic trees
*           Fireplace and chimney repair and maintenance
*           Historic paint colors and treatments
*           Utilizing Kentucky Historic Tax Credits
*           Researching your historic property
*           Buying, insuring and paying for historic rehabilitation
