Recreation Update September 2015

Below are list of activities and events sponsored by the City of Covington Recreation Department. For any additional information or questions please contact recreation@covingtonky.gov or 292-2151.

KSO Summer Series at Devou – One Date Left!

Since 1995, the Kentucky Symphony Orchestra has been holding concerts in the iconic Devou Park Bandshell. Bring your family, a blanket, and a picnic and enjoy excellent music in a picturesque venue.

Only one more concert date remains this summer, Sept. 5 at 7:30 p.m. We suggest you arrive early, however, as lawn seating is first-come, first-serve. There will be a shuttle service from Covington Catholic High School starting at 6 p.m.  The shuttle costs $1 each way. The restroom pavilion will be open and food trucks will be on hand.

The evening's concert will feature Broadway vets Pamela Myers and Jessica Hendy delivering stand out songs from Stephen Sondheim’s and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s hit musicals accompanied by the KSO. Songs from Company, Sweeney Todd, A Little Night Music, Follies, Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita, Cats, Phantom of the Opera, and more will be featured.

Admission is free, though a $5 per person donation is suggested. No registration or tickets required. More information is available at the KSO's website, www.kyso.org.

Free Outdoor Movie

Friday, September 18, the Covington Recreation Dept. will be showing Disney’s Big Hero 6 at the Waterpark at Bill Cappel Sports Complex.

Bring chairs or a blanket. Popcorn and punch will be provided. The movie will start at dusk.

Devou Fall Festival

From 12-5 p.m. on October 18, the Covington Recreation Dept. will be hosting its annual Fall Festival in Devou Park.

Bring the kids for an afternoon of entertainment, food, and family activities. There will be hay rides, a petting zoo, and inflatables.

Parks Survey

The City of Covington, along with Ludlow and Bromley are jointly hosting a website survey at RiverCityParks.org.

This site is a public resource and input tool for parks and recreation in the urban core of Kenton County. It will help gather information from the public as part of planning effort for future parks and park programming.

It also features an interactive map that shows the location and amenities available at each park located within the cities of Covington, Ludlow, and Bromley.

Please take the survey and make your opinion count!

Senior Swim

The Covington Recreation Dept. is once again hosting Senior Swim from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at the MSU Boys’ & Girls’ Club (20 W. 26th St.).

Sessions begin August 4th and continue through November 16th.

Senior Tai Chi

Join us from 10 - 11 a.m. every Monday at the Latonia Baptist Church (3800 Church St.) for Senior Tai Chi classes. Please note that classes will not take place on Labor Day (Sept. 7).
