Housing Choice Voucher Program Seeks New Landlords

The City of Covington Housing Choice Voucher Program (formerly Section 8 Program) is looking for property owners to partner with to provide safe, decent, and sanitary housing to low income families in Kenton County.

Housing Choice Voucher Program (HCV) is a federal rent subsidy program sponsored by the US Dept. of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Covington’s HCV Program covers all of Kenton County. Its purpose is to assist eligible elderly, disabled, or very low income households (as defined by HUD) secure decent, safe, and sanitary housing. Qualified families pay 30% of their gross income for rent and utilities. The HCV Program pays the remainder of the total contract rent to the landlord.

Minimal paperwork is required to participate and benefits to the landlord include:

  • Comparable rents.
  • Periodic inspections.
  • Additional monitoring for criminal activity.
  • Screening of all applicants.
  • Direct deposit with easy online access to payment history.
  • Owner retains normal management rights & responsibilities.
  • Free advertising of available units.
  • Giving back to the community by housing those who need it most.
  • Screen and select your tenants using your own selection criteria.
  • You decide how many HCV Program participants you want to rent to.
  • Timely move-in.
